⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character: Ace
Age: 17
Canon: Final Fantasy Type-0
Canon Point: After returning from Pandæmonium - Good/True Ending

Background:
"...Oh these lyrics? They're from a song Mother always used to sing to me.
The words feel so soothing to me. Sometimes, when I'm feeling down, I just sing to myself.
There's a sense of sadness in the lyrics, but it's tinged with hope—I like that."

Personality:

Anyone who looks at Ace at just a mere glance will see someone with a cool exterior. He doesn't reveal much of anything to just anybody and can be quite distant from them. For most of his life the only people he's ever really known is the woman who adopted him and her eleven other children. They were supposed to be like siblings but even though he spent ten years with them, Ace never thought of them as brothers and sisters. Still, those other kids were the only kind of contract he had with others and they weren't exactly normal either so Ace often distances himself from strangers. He didn't have a single friend outside of his "siblings" until the age of sixteen. Even after his life of isolation, Ace wasn't exactly an outgoing teenager but he did interact with others fairly well - he simply didn't open up to most of them. This gives him the image of being far more detached than others his age would be.

It doesn't help that he is a rather calm individual as well, not often showing his emotions or keeping his head in dire situations. Having grown up knowing nothing but fighting, war and other such subjects, Ace is an expert in handling the most deadly situations without flinching back in fear. All Ace has had to do is follow his Mother's orders and never truly had to doubt the most serious subject matters - such as death. In the world of Orience the dead are forgotten so that people who live on can keep moving forward and it was a simple fact that Ace believed to be the right thing.

Despite that belief, Ace can be very kind. While he may not have many people in his life, he does care for all of them. For the majority of his life, he never truly had to worry about any of his siblings permanently dying as Mother could bring them back to life but he also wouldn't leave them behind or at the mercy of enemy if given the choice. Even though Machina and Rem had only recently joined their group, Ace will still willing to fight after they'd been attacked. He even tried to save his dying friend even though it was already too late and shed a tear for him after failing to save him. At the end of it all, he was willing to die for a world of people he barely even knew.

There are few people that Ace truly cares for and his siblings are one of them. They may argue, bicker and get on each other's nerves like real siblings do but there is no one he trusts and cares for more. When things were at their worst and all of his siblings were hurting, Ace sang to them to ease their pain. He may be able to brush off the death of people he can no longer remember but can't sit there and watch his siblings cry. Ace even cared about the very first friend he had, a man named Izana Kunagiri that he only knew for a short period of time. The two of them bonded over sibling relationship problems and Ace wanted Izana to be there on his first mission with him. After watching Izana die, he cried even though he usually treated death so casually. Ace even started having dreams about Izana which were far too detailed for someone who had been forgotten after dying.

To go along with his kind and caring nature, Ace can sometimes empathize with others. This is shown when up against Machina - especially when the subject of Izana comes up. Once he realized that he was the reason that Izana was killed, he feels guilty and does nothing to defend himself when the younger brother confronted him about it. In fact, he allows Machina to blame him for it and never once tries to talk the other teen out his anger or asks for forgiveness. Ace is aware that nothing he says or does could ever make up for what happened or bring Izana back so he simply tries to move on and encourages Machina to do so as well.

On occasion Ace can be pretty reckless. It doesn't help that he has the knowledge that Mother can bring him back to life if he ends up dying but he sometimes rushes headfirst into a dangerous situation alone when he shouldn't. While the Eidolon Odin may have gone first to kill all of the Militesi soldiers, Ace was the first of Class Zero to jump into the battlefield. He also rushed in alone as Izana was dying rather than with his teammates. It may not happen often but if Ace sees a situation where he may be able to save someone then he would certainly try even if he's on his own.

Putting aside all of his kindness, empathy and age, Ace is a solider. He has no hesitation going into a battle and killing every enemy in front of him. People die - enemy and ally alike and even though he might want to save everyone he knows that simply isn't possible. When necessary he can walk over countless bodies and not look back in order to succeed in his mission. Ace has no problem following an order given to him unless it contradicts with what his Mother told him. Some of his siblings are more extreme and willing to drop any excessive baggage in the blink of an eye, he can keep fighting even when one of them dies right next to him. At least that's how things were back when Mother still brought them back to life. Without that power behind them, he is far more aware of their mortality. Without Mother issuing orders, he doesn't know how to live a normal life.

Due to the fact that he grew up somewhat sheltered Ace is fairly naive when it comes to the world-at-large. He may know how to fight and anything to do with the military but he knows little else when it comes to normal things. Without orders, Ace and all of his siblings didn't know what to do next with their lives. Being soldiers was their whole lives and there wasn't much they knew outside of that, they hardly knew what they actually liked. Perhaps through his contact with others, Ace knew a little more than his siblings as he once dreamed of them doing something other than fighting. One of the things he knew about was chocobos and was often there during his time at Akademia, breeding them or simply watching them. (In one of the past spirals, Ace said that he wanted to run a chocobo farm after the war.) He also sang, though it was only the first part of a song he once heard Mother sing, as it was the only part he remembered.

Abilities:

Magic: Like many of Rubrum's citizens, Ace has great magical aptitude, though thanks to Arecia doesn't have to depend on the Vermillion Bird Crystal that most others do. Instead, he absorbs phantoma from fallen foes and through this can replenish his MP. It was also used to upgrade any spells that the members of Class Zero have but the upgrading aspect will be unavailable to him as he won't have access to Arecia's Altocrystarium. Ace is capable of using a wide variety of magic spells that are both defensive and offense. He can both attack with an elemental spell or protect with barriers or even heal injuries.

It is of note to say that Ace is also capable of embuing his magic into the stack of 53 cards that he uses as a weapon. With this, he can send cards flying over a great distance and they are quite durable enough to injury and even kill an opponent. He can send multiple cards at once and his deck never truly runs out. Not only does he use them as projectiles but Ace and place one on the ground and it will act much like a landmine or use them to fire laser beams at an enemy.

Teleportation: It is important to note that Ace is the only individual in the entire Class Zero who can teleport during battle. He can use this to dodge enemy attacks or to escape being trapped in a corner. The teleportation doesn't allow him to go too far but friend and foe alike won't hinder it. Ace is also capable of throwing a card at an enemy and teleporting to the spot to continue his attack.

Eidolon: Throughout the course of the game, Class Zero is one of the only groups that is allowed to summon powerful creatures known as Eidolons. The reason for this is that it takes such enormous amounts of magic to summon one that the summoner is killed in the process. With Arecia being able to revive the members of Class Zero, this puts them in the special position of not having anyone permanetly die in the process. It does require three of them to summon any of the Eidolons so isn't exactly something Ace can do whenever he wants, not to mention that without Arecia coming back to life won't be as easy a process.

Alignment: Daimonia
At his canon point, there is a lot of grief and even joy as he faces both the looming possible deaths of nearly everyone in Class Zero and the idea that they're finally free to do what they want.

Other: Ace can sleep anywhere - school bench or classroom desk.
